The Academic year began in earnest on 4th day of June 2018 but formal Inaugural function was held on 23rd of June. A meaningful liturgy was organized by the Seminary community. Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao was the main celebrant at the Holy Eucharist. Musical and acting talents of the seminarians were show cased in the Inaugural programme that followed. Fr Roman Rodrigues delivered the Lectio brevis on the pastoral theme. “He has anointed me to bring Good news to the poor.� On June 28th the students displayed their love for the mother earth during the celebration of World Environment Day in the Seminary School. Fr. Roman co-ordinated the activities that were organised to celebrate this day. Alice D’Cruz, the lecturer at St Xaviers college Mapusa was the Chief Guest for the earlier mentioned function. She urged the students to do their bit in safeguarding the environment. Mathematical Day was celebrated on 19th July. Fr. Agnelo Gomes, the Maths teacher, showed that learning of maths is indeed interesting. In the last week of July the 1st Formative Exams were conducted. Fancy dress competition was conducted on Freedom fighters on 11th August in association with Samrat Club. The Solemn Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady to Heaven was celebrated with great pomp on the 15th day of August. On the 22nd August, Fr. Antonio Salema conducted lot of activities on the occasion of English day celebration to enhance the knowledge of English language. The Open day was organized on 26th August. It started with the mass at 9.30 am for students and parents followed by distribution of results and interaction with the parents. Teachers Day was celebrated on5th September. The Day began with prayer service cum assembly conducted by the students in honour of their teachers at 8.30. Special Mass was celebrated at 10 am later a beautiful programmed was staged by the students. The staff of the Seminary visited Marcaim village on 10th September to spend a little time in fellowship and also learn and appreciate the Goan culture, occupation, beauty and cuisine in the villages. During Gandhi Jayanti celebration on 2nd October, History Day was celebrated. Colourful Rangoli on historical figures, Slogan from the India’s Freedom struggle were depicted by the students. Special Quiz was designed to test their knowledge of History and Governance. This activity was conducted by our History teacher Orlinda Sequeira. The Summative Exams for the students were conducted in the last week of October. On 30th November, the students for their field trip visited Ela Farm Old Goa in the morning and in the evening they took part in the Novena services of St Francis Xavier. On the 20th December, the School Sports Day was celebrated in a grand manner. Track and field events were organized. Some traditional games were also conducted. Special floats about the Goan culture and occupations were put up. Students exhibited their talents in the various drills and their skills in tent making. Mr. Newton Azavedo the Physical Education teacher at St Xaviers Higher Secondary Mapusa was the Chief Guest. Christmas Card competition was conducted in joint association with Samraat Club on 21st December. The students’ artistic capabilities impressed everyone. The whole Seminary community celebrated Christmas as one family on 22nd December with a meaningful liturgy prepared for the occasion. Some time was spent in fellowship. A variety of games were conducted and gifts distributed. Everyone tasted the Christmas delicacies prepared by the students themselves with the help of the staff members. In the latter part of January 2019, prelims for SSC students and 2nd formative tests for the VIII and IX students were conducted. Indian languages day was celebrated on the 7th February and students displayed their flair for Hindi and Konkani language through the various activities organized for them – Treasure hunt, translating the film dialogues and literary activities. This day was celebrated under the guidance of language teachers, Suvarna Signapurkar and Kirti Calangutkar. For the school excursion, the students were taken to Opa Water works to see the water treatment plant, Sanjeevani Sugar factory and Codar where students spent time in natural surroundings.. Science Day was celebrated on 1st day of March. Students under the guidance of Fr. Edwin Pereira our science teacher, displayed their scientific temperament exhibiting their science projects and demonstration of scientific principles through the working models. Our students also took part in various sports activities organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. At the Bardez taluka level our school U- 17 team bagged the 3rd place in Table Tennis. In Athletics our students did very well. In 5 km walk with Joyel Johnson and Fluino Carvalho bagging the first two places. In 600 m race for boys in U-14 category our students Jordan Lobo was the state champion. Spiritual activities like retreats, recollections were also conducted to help them improve their spiritual lives. To promote literary and artistic talents, 4 editions of wall papers were organized. In the SSC Board exams our school sponsored 27 students and our school got a cent percent result with Joslino Justin Fernandes topping the school with 84%. In acknowledement of all the above events, I would like to show my appreciation and gratitude for the help rendered by the Rector, the teaching staff, the prefects, the priest staff members, sisters, kitchen staff and all other people who supported us.
